Silica Dust Danger Signs

A number of States and Territories have now introduced regulations in relation to the protection of workers against Silica Dust exposure with the remainder expected to follow soon. 

Silica dust is generated in workplace mechanical processes such as crushing, cutting, drilling, grinding, sawing or polishing of natural stone or man-made products that contain silica. It becomes dangerous when the dust generated becomes airborne and is inhaled into the lungs. 

Exposure to silica dust can lead to the development of lung cancer, silicosis (an irreversible scarring and stiffening of the lungs), kidney disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
